First game:
We take the field with 2 starters (Chris Marshall, Mike Carroll) returning to play where they played last year in this game. Seniors (Jeremy Pillow, Bannet Asingura) and the early departure of Lio Mussoni, Nick Costello, Jimmy Carter and Ryan Bran Nd gave us a definite 'new look' feel. TMC, a conference champion and NCAA tournament participant playing at home were enough challenge without the absence because of injury of Irhad Strika and Mike Nsoesie and temperatures of 97 (definitely over 100 on the turf).
That said, we played great for about a half hour, ahead 1-0 until a soft goal and last year's nightmare (own goal) put us 2-1 down at half. We didn't recover our form in the 2nd half and despite some good performances individually we conceded a couple more softies and a penalty to end our day. Ameer Yusuf was a standout with 2 goals and we did create chances we coudn't finish.
I'm optimistic because we can score and because our defensive deficiencies can be addressed. We play an excellent Case Western team this Sunday at 1PM
